Best Dance Festivals in the UK for 2014

Best Dance Festivals in the UK for 2014  – by Devious Soul

Yeah, yeah, yeah, we all know that British dance music festivals can be a bit of a washout with the weather. This does also equate to some hilarious YouTube footage of ravers slipping and sliding about in the mud.

But let’s not get too down-heartened about what the weather throws at us Brits every year and look ahead to the promise of a brighter festival future. For a country of our size we throw some of the biggest and best dance events on the planet. Not even the dreadful weather can hold us back from a monster party. Apart from Creamfields 2012, but the less said about the better.

We decided to take a look at some of the smaller, more leftfield festivals that will be taking place in the UK this year, with an emphasis on quality not quantity of the acts on show. We’re pretty sure you know that Global Gathering is on, so here are a few other exciting festivals worth checking out if you’re looking for something less mainstream to do in between any music production courses summer courses at our London site of course 🙂

Field Maneuvers – Secret Location in Oxfordshire -29-13 August 2014
Only in it’s second year, this 3 day festival held in a secret location in Oxfordshire is a throwback to the old school raves when you needed to be in the know to go. With only 500 tickets available, this is about as intimate as a festival will get and with the likes of Move D, Wookie, Ghettospheric and Cornstone Soundsystem booked to play, this is the kind of underground dance party that keeps the scene fresh and funky.

Beat-Herder Festival – Clitheroe, Lancashire – 18-21 July 2014
This four-day festival is more in tune with an old school ravers dream line up than the latest EDM spinners. A really eclectic line up hosts the likes of Happy Mondays, The Orb, Utah Saints, Greg Wilson, Mr. Scruff and surprisingly BONEY M! With that line up, this looks like a hell of a lot of fun! You can take the raver out of the rave, but you can’t take the rave out of the raver.

Farr Festival – Newnham, Bedfordshire – 18-20 July 2014
Held in a disused wood, this boutique festival heads into it’s fourth year with a line up to make any discerning music lover drool. With acts of the calibre of Andrew Weatherall, dBridge, Robert Owens, Scuba Mount Kimbie, plus Hercules & Love Affair live; this festival is strictly for the heads. We can assure you not a glowstick in sight!

High Definition – Secret London Location – Saturday 5 July 2014
If you can’t be bothered with camping and wiping your arse on a dock leaf, why not try the High Definition one day music festival in London? The line up is off the hook with Carl Cox, Dusky, Joe Orbison and the Martinez Brothers for the house heads, whilst Shy FX, DJ Die, Brockie and the mighty Ratpack rinse the D&B flavours. You can even get the bus home without having to use a cider bottle as a pillow/colostomy bag. Result!

So there you have it, four super cool festivals that will offer a wide array of sounds and scenes. Let’s just pray for a dry summer, but this is England folks. Grab a mac, a golfing umbrella and get your best ‘going out’ wellies on and let’s ‘ave it!
