NYC Compression or Parallel Compression in Ableton Live
NYC Compression or Parallel Compression is a dynamic range compression technique used in sound recording and mixing.
This is achieved by mixing an unprocessed ´dry´signal, with a heavily compressed version of the same signal, which I’m going to do via a return channel (C), so I can mix dry and wet signal with the send knobs.
Rather than bringing down the highest peak for the purpose of the dynamic range reduction, it reduces the dynamic range by bringing up the softest sounds, adding audible detail.
It’s most often used on stereo percussion buses in recording and mixdown, on busses and on vocals in recording mixes and live performances.
