Arrangement

OVERVIEW

At this point, we looked at writing and sketching out some ideas, maybe even started to create 4 to 8 bar loops. Next we should consider extending these ideas into fully arranged composition. Before we discuss arrangement, I want to share a project with you.

 

Common Song Phrases

Intro Verse Pre Hook Hook Bridge Outro Solo

Less elements, helps build into verse, hook. Sometimes a ‘tag’ tease will be in intro
Usually simple part of the beat, less elements leaving room for vocals.
A slight departure from the Verse. Tension can start to build.
Catchy part of the song, repetitive parts aka the chorus, most elements can be played.
Usually appears around the last verse, can be a shorter phrase than a verse. Heard in pop music. Less elements again, similar to intro, fades song to conclusion.

This is usually done by a singer or a piece played by a single person.

  • »  4/4 Time Signature. Divisions of 4.
  • »  It is common for verses to be 8 or 16 bars.
  • »  Most Hooks are 8 or 16 bars.
